Catherine Sherman is a teaching artist who enjoys making and exploring concepts through art with community of all ages. In this video, she teaches the basics of patchwork layout design, inspired by the work of quilter Rosie Lee Tompkins.  Catherine demonstrates how to reinterpret the American flag with your own story as inspiration.

Catherine began her own exploration of the American flag In 2016. “I started tearing fabric to grieve our divided country. Those torn strips became stripes and soon I was building an American flag with new colors, patterns and textures. I named it BEYOND RED WHiTE AND BLUE.”
