Announcing Saint Joseph’s Arts Foundation’s next exhibition, Packing and Cracking: The Art of (and Response to) Gerrymandering. Come see how threads become a canvas for change!

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Packing and Cracking: The Art of (and Response to) Gerrymandering, inspired by Rich Silverstein, features quilts and fiber-based artworks that explore the effects of gerrymandering on communities across the United States. Featuring more than 40 works by 13 Bay Area artists, they use textile art to respond to political activism and the effects of gerrymandering on democracy.
The exhibition highlights quilting as a metaphor for the sanctity of voting, drawing on themes of civil rights, women’s health, immigration, and climate justice. It emphasizes the Bay Area’s tradition of craft as political dissent and invites viewers to reflect on art’s role in advocating for change.
Presented at a time of intense political discourse, this project embodies the Saint Joseph’s Art Foundation’s commitment to fostering community through the arts and celebrating the creative innovation and influence of the Bay Area.

This exhibition, curated by Martin Strickland, Director of the Saint Joseph’s Art Foundation, and conceived by Rich Silverstein, Co-Founder at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, features quilts and fiber-based artworks that explore the effects of gerrymandering on communities across the United States.

As Michelle Obama said herself – DO SOMETHING! Here’s a start if you’re looking to get inspired.
