GRiEF TRANSFORMED
In 2024 when I co-curated the Fall Show Imagine: Beyond Red White and Blue at Hunt & Gather, gallery owner DeeDee Hunt invited me to create a “ripping station” where the community could experience my practice of tearing fabric to process grief, release emotion, and respond to the state of the world. It was deeply moving to witness so many people participating in this collective act of healing and hope.
This was a 2 phase project: LET iT RiP followed by MAKiNG MEANiNG, where I gathered every strip of fabric and began the slow, intentional work of listening to the pieces, sorting and stitching. Over the spring and summer, those fragments transformed into four unique but connected quilts: ALiGN, BECOME, CLiMB and DREAM.
When Community, Creativity, and Healing Come Together
Thank you to everyone who participated in LET iT RiP. Each MAKiNG MEANiNG quilt shares the memory of our moment in time and the power of art and making to heal and bring beauty to the world. I’m honored to bring those quilts back to Hunt & Gather during ArtSpan SF Open Studios 2025,.
ALiGN, BECOME, CLiMB and DREAM can be viewed and purchased in person at Hunt & Gather or online at huntgathershop.com through September 22, 2025
